Archbishop Daniel DiNardo Named Cardinal

Archbishop Daniel DiNardo of the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese was named by Pope Benedict XVI as one of 23 new cardinals on Wednesday, Oct. 17. He will be the first Roman Catholic bishop in Texas to be elevated to the rank of cardinal. Pope Benedict will elevate the prelates at a Vatican ceremony on Nov. 24.
Archbishop DiNardo, who was a member of the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops for six years, became archbishop of the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese in Feb. 2006. He is a member of the University of St. Thomas Board of Directors and a charter member of the UST Knights of Columbus, Fr. Vincent J. Guinan Council 13940.
