Continuing an eight-year streak of award-winning participation, the University of St. Thomas Student Affiliates Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) can add yet another recognition and publication to their list of kudos.

The UST ACS Chapter has been awarded “outstanding” status by the National ACS based on the activities and accomplishments in the 2007-2008 Chapter Annual Report. Only 40 of the 980 chapters in the United States and Puerto Rico were awarded this highest ranking. The UST Chapter has achieved an award every year since 2000, and this is the second time it has achieved the highest award.

The UST chapter will be listed in an upcoming issue of Chemical and Engineering News, the Society’s official news magazine. The Student Affiliates magazine, in Chemistry, will also feature UST. The students will present a poster at the 237th National Meeting and Exposition to be held in Salt Lake City, March 22-26, 2009, and will be honored at a ceremony on March 22.

The award plaque will be displayed on the second floor of Robertson along with the plaques from previous years. Dr. Thomas Malloy, professor of chemistry, is the faculty advisor for the Chapter.
