Keanne Smith Named AII Female Athlete of the Week

 University of St. Thomas senior Keanne Smith, a libero for the Lady Celts volleyball team, was named NAIA Association of Independent Institutions Female Athlete of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 14, 2009.
Smith led her St. Thomas team to a 2-2 record during the week of Sept. 14, including a straight sets victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan. Smith currently leads her team with a 4.7 digs per game average on the season, and totaled 16 digs in the win over OWU.
Keanne, an education major and history minor, came to UST two years ago from Kingwood College where she was named Volleyball MVP for the 2006-2007 season while also making the President’s and Dean’s List. She graduated from Hargrave High School as a Texas Scholar in 2005 and received All-District team awards senior year.
While at UST, she received the UST Iron Woman award for the last two seasons. In the 2007-2008 season, she helped her team to a top 10 regional finish. In the 2008-2009 season, she was appointed to be a co-captain of the team and was named First Team All-Conference in the A.I.I. She lead the team in digs and serve receive percentage, and helped the team to the opening rounds of Nationals in California. She was also awarded the Defensive Player of the Year for the 2008-2009 season.
