UST Announces I Madonnari Winners

 In the midst of the 31st annual Festa Italiana, Houston area high school students channeled their artistic expression into Italian-themed sidewalk chalk drawings to compete for the third annual I Madonnari Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest on October 17 on the University of St. Thomas Campus Life Mall.
The contest winners were Michelle Martinez, first place, KIPP; Edgar Jeronimo, second place, George I Sanchez High Scool; Andrea Castro, third place KIPP. Winners received cash prizes.
Sponsored by the University of St. Thomas and the Italian Cultural and Community Center, this original art competition adorned the sidewalks of the University of St. Thomas during the weekend of the 31st Annual Festa Italiana and the following days.
A traditional art form started by traveling artists in 1500 Renaissance Italy, these modern artists created new and original works ranging from traditional master-style to modern images.
