UST Appoints Dr. John Palasota as Associate VPAA
6/5/2009
University of St. Thomas announces the appointment of Dr. John A. Palasota as associate vice president for Academic Affairs.
In 2000, Palasota joined the faculty full time as an assistant professor of chemistry and became a tenured associate professor in 2006.
Palasota is an alumnus of UST, graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and mathematics.
“My desire to serve as a member of the University’s academic leadership is rooted in my own rich and broad undergraduate curriculum,” Palasota said. “I have a deep appreciation of and respect for a liberal arts and sciences education. I also have a great respect for the work of the faculty because we encourage and challenge our students to seek their full potential both inside and outside the classroom.”
Palasota served for the past three years as associate dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. He also was the co-director of St. Thomas’ Pre-health Professions program for six years.
“Dr. Palasota’s teaching and scholarship are outstanding,” said Dr. Dominic Aquila, vice president of Academic Affairs. “A graduate of UST, he has served his alma mater tirelessly and highly effectively as associate dean of Arts and Sciences, associate professor of chemistry and co-director of the Health Professions Advisory Committee. As associate dean of Arts and Sciences, I relied heavily on his keen intellect, sharp analytical skills and superior problem-solving abilities.”
Palasota received his doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Houston in 1993. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.
He actively researches in areas of designed experiments and optimization strategies applied to the development, validation and improvement of chemical, environmental and biological technologies, and in areas of developing analytical methods for high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography.
