UST Appoints Fr. Joseph Pilsner as Dean of Arts and Sciences

 University of St. Thomas announces the appointment of the Rev. Joseph Pilsner, CSB, as dean of the School of Arts and Sciences effective July 1.
Currently, Fr. Pilsner is an associate professor of theology and the chair of the theology department. He teaches courses in theology, and is the former director of UST’s Honors Program.
“I’m happy to take on this position for the University and look forward to being of service to the faculty and students,” Pilsner said.
Fr. Pilsner joined the St. Thomas faculty in 1997. He was called to Toronto by the Basilian Fathers to take charge of the formation of seminarians in 2000. He returned to teaching at UST in 2002.
“Fr. Joseph is an outstanding teacher and scholar and a greatly admired leader and colleague,” said Dr. Dominic Aquila, vice president of Academic Affairs. “We are truly privileged and graced to have a man of his intelligence, character and abilities to lead the faculty of Arts and Sciences.”
Ordained as a priest in May, 1991, Fr. Pilsner earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Gannon University in Erie, Pa. in 1983, and a master’s degree in philosophy from UST in 1985. Fr. Pilsner also holds a Master of Divinity from the University of St. Michael’s College, a doctorate in theology from Oxford University and a postdoctoral licentiate from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies.
