LeBlanc Appointed to Archdiocesan School Council
8/26/2009
Dr. Robert LeBlanc, dean of School of Education, will represent the University of St. Thomas on the new Archdiocesan School Council.
LeBlanc is one of 13 members of the Council who advises His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo and the superintendents of the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The Council will suggest how to implement the document, Lumen Pro Via (Light for the Way). LeBlanc was also on the strategic planning committee for Lumen Pro Via, which sets goals for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese.
“As dean of School of Education, I am excited to work with the Catholic Schools Office to better Catholic education in the Archdiocese,” LeBlanc said.
LeBlanc’s background with Catholic schools will support his membership on the Council. He is the director of the Gulf Region Academy for Catholic Educators program (GRACE) which trains teachers for Catholic schools. For two years, the teachers simultaneously earn a master’s degree in Catholic Education and teach in a Catholic school.
In 1969, LeBlanc received his bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas, and returned to UST in 2002 as an associate professor in education. He was appointed dean of School of Education in 2008.
LeBlanc earned his master’s degree and doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston. Before coming to St. Thomas, LeBlanc worked at the Klein Independent School District as a teacher and administrator.
