Financial Aid Increase Partially Offsets Tuition Hike

University of St Thomas President Dr. Robert Ivany has requested the Board of Directors to approve a budget for the coming year which will include a $516,000 increase in student aid, one of the largest in recent years.
The aid package will allocate approximately $200,000 to increase the number of merit-based scholarships. The remaining funds will add to UST grants awarded to needy students each year.
“We will do all we can to support our students who are committed to earning a St. Thomas education,” Dr. Ivany said.
In 2010/2011 the University will distribute $7,586,000 in institutional scholarships and grants. UST students will receive more than $24 million in financial aid support from all sources.
Earlier this year, the University of St. Thomas Board of Directors approved a 7.67 percent increase in undergraduate tuition and an 8.73 percent increase in graduate tuition for the 2010/2011 academic year. The increase adds $55 per credit hour to undergraduate tuition and $70 per credit hour to graduate tuition. Technology fees and rates for both residence halls will see slight increases. Technology fees will be set at $60 for undergraduate students and $36 for graduate students. Guinan Hall room rates will reflect an increase of $50 and the meal plan will increase by $50.
