UST Names John Starner as Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences

 The University of St. Thomas has appointed Dr. John Starner as Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences.
Starner joined the faculty in 1998, and he currently serves as associate professor of mathematics. He previously served as the chair of the Management Information Systems Department.
As a faculty member, Starner has been active in many committee roles including strategic planning, assessment, evaluation, and governance.
“John brings much administrative experience to his new position, including his recent service on faculty leadership,” Dean of Arts and Sciences Fr. Joseph Pilsner, CSB, said.
Starner earned a BS in physics, and an MA and PhD in Mathematics, all from the University of New Mexico. He came to UST in 1998 after a 23 year career at the University of Texas at El Paso. Starner has held several administrative positions at the University of Texas at El Paso and the University of St. Thomas. At UT El Paso, he served as the chair of Computer Science Department and of the Information and Decision Sciences Department and the director of the Computer Center for eight years. His last position was as the Director for Business Academic Affairs for the College of Business Administration at UT El Paso.
Over his career, he has received college and departmental awards for teaching excellence.
“I hope to apply my experience in higher education to help Fr. Pilsner lead the School of Arts and Sciences into the future,” Starner said.
