UST Hosts 23rd Annual Piano Day Camp
6/2/2011
The 23rd annual Houston Piano Day Camp will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., June 20-24. The camp will include group and individual piano instruction, hands-on experience with harpsichord, clavichord and organ, daily snacks, a final recital on the Steinway concert grand piano in Cullen Hall and an awards ceremony upon completion. The cost is $150 per camper and a $25 deposit is due by June 10.

“This is a great time for piano students to meet other students,” said Paul Krystofiak, director of the UST Music Preparatory School. “Practicing can be an isolating chore and getting together in a group is refreshing and inspiring. The group activities are fun and encourage creativity and sharing new ideas; a wonderful way to meet new musical friends. I have students coming up to me from many years past who tell me what a life changing experience it was to attend piano camp. Music is truly an international language. It can be very spiritually enriching and coming together to share their music is an invaluable experience.”

Krystofiak has served on the faculty of the University of St. Thomas since 1986 and holds degrees in piano performance and piano pedagogy at the graduate level. He also brings to the camp expertise from his studies abroad. Krystofiak has served seven terms as president of the Houston Music Teachers Association and was honored by HMTA, receiving its Service Award and “Teacher of the Year” in 1993. He was also recognized as “Faculty Advisor of the Year” for his guidance with the UST chapter of the music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon, Gamma Tau chapter.

The camp will take place on the UST Campus in Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon, and enrollment is limited. To register for the camp or for more information about the Music Preparatory School, contact Director Paul Krystofiak at 713-525-3566 or krystop@stthom.edu, or visit www.stthom.edu/mps.
