Assists, 3s Reign Supreme in MBB Win
Adrian MoralesThe University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team defeated the Bacone College Warriors, 80-57, on Jan. 28 in Jerabeck Gym. St. Thomas moves up to 15-5 for the season and 10-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Bacone took an early lead at 17-15 before UST went on an 18-4 run to end the half at 33-21. The Celts dominated and started the second half with an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach for good.
The Celts were led by Caleb Williams with 16 points. Fellow senior Adrian Morales attacked with 5 of 9 from the 3, which was his best of the season, to finish with 15 points. Travis Lampley finished with a season and career high of 15 assists. Lampley is leading the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics in assists with an average 8.79 per game and 167 for the season, which does not include his stellar performance against the Warriors.
Charles Gordon led Bacone with 13 points and seven rebounds for the game.
Coming up for UST is the third game in a lineup of six home games in a row. St. Thomas will play University of the Southwest at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 in Jerabeck Gym. This game will be the second annual Celts for Blue Cure game to raise awareness about prostate cancer. All attendees are invited to wear blue to support the cause and the Blue Cure Foundation. The team will wear blue warmups to start the game.
