Beat the Heat with Camps, Courses

Photo: Green Glasses on BookParents, students and adults who don’t want to spend their summer watching television or roasting in the Houston sun should take advantage of the University of St. Thomas summer programs. St. Thomas offers a wide selection of courses and camps during the summer sessions from May 28 to Aug. 10 to satisfy any summertime blues. 
 

Enroll in Summer Courses
 

Academically, UST provides coursework that includes undergraduate and graduate. The Summer I session runs from May 28 – July 1, and Summer II goes from July 8 – August 10. Current UST students, as well as students from other universities, can attend summer sessions to earn additional credit and graduate early. See a full list of course offerings and summer programs.

Undergraduate courses include:

 

·         Biology

·         Chemistry

·         Public Speaking

·         U.S. History

·         Macroeconomics

·         Philosophy

·         Political Science

·         Psychology

·         English Writing and Literature

·         Theology

 

Graduate courses include:
 

Master of Business Administration courses in international economics, international finance, business statistics, operations management and supply chain, marketing applications and research, organizational behavior, and ethical and moral business management.
 

Master in Liberal Arts courses in fiction creative writing, international politics, modern philosophy, public policy analysis and Shakespeare Literature.


Master of Education courses in cultural foundations, instructional leadership, human growth and development, and school law.

High school or undergraduate students attending from other universities should contact the Office of Admissions to learn more and inquire about dual credit summer courses.
 

Get Ahead with Mendenhall Summer Institute
July 8 – Aug. 8

 

Photo: MendenhallIncoming freshmen can apply for the Mendenhall Summer Institute, which allows students to get ahead this summer with six credit hours of English, math or science. The Institute is a five-week program for a selected group of incoming freshmen with proven academic skills and involvement in extracurricular activities.
 

Upon successful completion of the Summer Institute, you may be considered for an annual Mendenhall grant valued at $2,000 per year for four years. The award is based on financial need, academic performance and involvement in the program.

UST-SIM Gives Math a Critical Look
July 15 – 19
 

Photo: CalculatorThe UST Summer Institute of Mathematics, or UST-SIM, is a one-week program open to 20 students. It is designed to enrich and build upon concepts learned in algebra and geometry.

D.R.E.M.E. @ UST with Science Summer Camp
Aug. 5 – 7

 

Photo: DREME CampUST, in collaboration with the Dr. Ronald E. McNair Educational Science Literacy Foundation will host the D.R.E.M.E. @ UST Science Summer Science Camp again this summer. Students who are interested in science, technology, energy, math and robotics should apply. Download an application.

Learn Value of Medicine at Camp Cardiac
July 29 – Aug. 2

Piano Music Summer Program Provides Dual Credit

New this summer, the UST dual credit program will now offer college credit for individual applied piano lessons for high school juniors and seniors.

 

Houston Piano Day Camp & Anniversary Gala Extravaganza
June 17 – 21
 

The camp provides group and individual piano instruction and hands-on experience with the harpsichord, clavichord and organ.

 

Summer Guitar Camp

July 8 – 12
 

Summer Guitar Camp is a program designed for aspiring musicians to promote the growth and development of musical knowledge and skills.
 

String Institute
July 15 – 19


Advanced string players will rehearse and perform electrifying concertos for string orchestra by the great Venetian composer, Antonio Vivaldi.
 

Chamber Ensemble Workshop
July 15 – 19


Select students will be formed into level appropriate ensembles of three to five to perform masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire.
 

Math & Music Academy
July 22 – 26


The Math & Music Academy offers a unique opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of mathematical and musical concepts through the examination of the interconnection between math and music.
 

Private/Individual Lessons
 

MPS provides private and individual lessons in piano, guitar, voice, orchestral instruments and composition. Student Teacher Instruction is available in 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute sessions for private lessons. Contact the Music Preparatory School for cost.

UST women’s volleyball provides guidance and skills training for players and coaches wanting to take it to the next level. Contact Kallie Noble, volleyball head coach, at 713-831-7220 or noblekm@stthom.edu.
 

All Skills Camp
June 17 – 19


If a players goals are to improve their overall technique, general tactical knowledge and perhaps play collegiate volleyball, this is the camp for them.
 

Team Camp
July 22 – 25


Team Camp is an intense, structured program that will focus on team development and performance through training with high school teammates and competition against participating camp teams.
 

Satellite Camp
Dates are available throughout June and July.


UST volleyball staff will work with your school to design a camp that specifically targets all areas of the game that needs to be improved at your school.
 

Erin HollidayMaster Triple Threat at Women’s Basketball Camps

Rising Stars Camp
June 10 – 13

 

The UST Rising Stars camp is a fundamentals-based camp that is designed to enhance the skills of the novice to advanced player.
 

Team Camp
June 14 – 16


Each team that participates in the Team Camp will be guaranteed a minimum of five games which will be officiated by certified referees.
 

Elite Camp
June 21 – 22


The Elite Camp is dedicated to the player who has aspirations of playing basketball at the college level.
