07-09 Undergraduate Catalog Online
8/24/2007
The appearance of the two-year Undergraduate Catalog is a significant event at UST because of the extraordinary amount of information it provides to faculty, students, administration, staff, other members of the University community, and, not least, prospective students searching for an academic home after high school. The document appears first online; a printed version in traditional format will be available in several weeks, free for first year students and at very low cost for all others.
This catalog is UST’s most complex document and perhaps the most important because of its wealth of information on admissions policy, financial aid, student organizations and services, academic advising, academic policies and a listing of all departments and programs, complete with degree or other requirements and a description of all courses. A work like this requires the participation of all three on campus schools, all academic departments and practically every office on campus.
People closest to the action of producing the Undergraduate Catalog, especially if new to the project, sometimes speak of Winston Churchill’s “blood, sweat, and tears” because of the amount and variety of text, the desire for clarity in writing and presentation, and the frustratingly elusive pursuit of total accuracy. The people most involved in this occasion’s chase are listed on the final page of the catalog; they deserve to be moved up front at least temporarily for this announcement.
Dr. Jerry Kramer, associate vice president for Academic Affairs, general editor of the Undergraduate Catalog (This is the fifth UST Undergraduate Catalog he has edited.)
Alexis Scates, administrative assistant to the AVPAA, associate editor
Barbara Jonte, assistant registrar and degree auditor, associate editor
Christopher Zeglin, publications designer, Office of Publications, catalog design
