University of St. Thomas Names George DeMontrond as the Chair of the Board of Directors

The University of St. Thomas Board of Directors has elected George A. DeMontrond III as its chair, and Michele Malloy as vice chair. Both terms begin July 1.
George A. DeMontrond III, President, DeMontrond Automotive Group, Inc., most recently served as vice chair on the UST board of directors. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1976 from the University of Texas School of Law. He graduated from Princeton University in 1973 with degrees in basic engineering and economics.
DeMontrond served on the successful $65 million capital campaign team for the University of St. Thomas, and co-chaired the UST Athletics Advisory Council, providing leadership to initiate intercollegiate athletics for UST in the fall of 2006. George and Marilyn DeMontrond chaired the Ethical Leadership in Action award luncheon program in 2004. Both are active boosters of the University.
He currently serves on the boards of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Greater Houston Partnership, Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America, Houston Grand Opera, World Affairs Council and the Houston International Festival. DeMontrond also chaired Houston’s efforts to bid for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Michele Malloy is independent counsel for Marathon Oil Company. She previously held executive positions with Tenneco Inc. and legal positions with Conoco Inc. She joined the UST Board of Directors in 2002, and has served as chair of both the academic affairs and nominating committees. She is a member of the board of Houston Grand Opera, the Center for Irish Studies, serves as president of the Revels Houston board, and chaired the capital campaign for Incarnate Word Academy. She holds degrees from St. Mary’s College, the University of Texas and the University of Houston. She and her family have long been avid supporters and benefactors of the University.
