UST Appoints Dr. Virginia Leiker as School of Education Associate Dean
9/25/2009
The University of St. Thomas announces the appointment of Dr. Virginia Leiker as the associate dean of the School of Education.
Leiker joined the UST faculty in 2000, and served as an adjunct until 2006. Prior to her employment at UST, she worked in public education for 33 years, with 25 years in campus and district administration. Leiker earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Kansas State University, a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston and doctorate in educational leadership from Baylor University.
“I am very pleased that Dr. Virginia Leiker has been named associate dean of the School of Education,” said Dr. Robert LeBlanc, dean of the School of Education. “She is a very effective faculty member, and has extensive educational experience in the Houston area. Her professional interests include educational administration, curriculum development and international education – all of which will be assets for the School of Education.”
In addition to her duties as associate dean, Leiker also serves as director of educational leadership.
“This experience provides a unique perspective for me as the director of educational leadership,” Leiker said. “I had always hoped to teach at the university level some day and feel extremely fortunate to be at UST. UST has provided support at every step of the way for me, both within and outside the School of Education.”
