UST Archives Begins to Post Collections Online
1/26/2009
Led by Archivist Ron Drees and assisted by long-time volunteers and staffers Betty Fischer and Betty Kaffenberger, the University Archives has achieved the first of many steps in their goal to make the Archives collections available online.
The growth, accomplishments and struggles of the University are recorded in the Archives in collections ranging from the papers of the presidents, vice-presidents of academic affairs, hundreds of photographs, collections of papers from individual faculty members, student publications of newspapers, yearbooks and literature, and the Communications Department (formerly known as Public Affairs) which documented lectures, concerts, debates and the events that complete a university education.
The initial online phase features various aspects of the University's history. University presidents, their terms of office and photographs are online already while University buildings and their history, and documents significant to the University's founding and growth will be added shortly. A portion of the photograph collection is also displayed.
“This web page is dynamic and will continue to grow,” said Drees. “We developed the online archives to make the treasures of UST available to everyone at any time.”
Researchers can explore the Archives at www.stthom.edu/archives and find additional information at “Policies and Information for Archive Users." Contact the Archives at 713-525-3895 for an appointment.
The Archives, located in Siena House at 1305 Branard Street south of Guinan Hall, is part of the Doherty Library.
