The crosses represented memorials for the estimated 3,700 abortions which are performed daily in the United States.

Roe v. Wade, decided by the United States Supreme Court on January 22, 1973, was a landmark which legalized abortion.

Joseph Ramos, Celts for Life president, said this is the first year that group have created this display. The crosses were made within a four-day span by club members and Guinan Hall residents who volunteered their time.

“It is important to raise awareness about this day in history and about the victims of abortion,” Ramos said. “Roe V. Wade enabled many citizens of the United States to redefine the right to human life and when human life begins. We must be aware of the destruction that occurs when we question the dignity of all human life.”

Celts for Life meet in front of the Planned Parenthood every Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. to pray. On Jan. 24, many members of the club traveled to Austin for the Texas Rally for Life where they joined 2,000 fellow Texans committed to defending the sanctity of human life at numerous events through the day including a prayer vigil at South Austin Planned Parenthood Facility, a “Rosary For Life,” a Diocesan Pro-life Mass, a “March for Life,” down Congress Ave. to the Capital and, finally, the “Rally for Life” on the steps of the Capital.”

“As a faculty advisor for the Celts for Life, I am very proud of ourphoto: full view of abortion cross UST students who worked so diligently on the memorial of white crosses as a way of raising pro-life awareness on campus,” said Sister Damien Marie Savino. “We brought 19 UST students to Austin last weekend for the Mass and Rally for Life and hope to bring as many or more to Washington, DC next year for the National March for Life. The students deserve our gratitude and support.”

Other club activities include participating in Silent Solidarity where students took a pledge to abstain from speaking for 24 hours in order to reflect and pray for the end of abortion. They also handed out fliers with information about the victims of abortion to inform as many students as possible. Students who were not able to abstain from speaking wore red tape on their clothing with "life" written on it.
