Strake Foundation Establishes Pope John Paul II Forum
1/11/2010
The Pope John Paul II Forum for the Church in the Modern World was established with a gift from the Strake Foundation. In 2009, UST Philosophy Professor Dr. John Hittinger coordinated efforts to bring this Forum to the University. The gift will sponsor its activities over a three-year period.
The mission of the Forum is to promote a broader and deeper understanding of the thought of Pope John Paul II and to facilitate its application to contemporary issues. The activities and resources of the Forum will focus upon the great work and vision of Pope John Paul II and make it accessible to the University community, Houston and the nation.
Through his life and work as a pastor, scholar, and man of the world, Pope John Paul II developed an expansive range of speeches and writings. The Forum will provide opportunities for students, faculty, and the community at large to avail themselves of this legacy. The promotion of the thought of Pope John Paul II is primarily an educational apostolate. The work of the Forum includes public lectures, workshops for faculty development, and conferences. A website is available at www.jp2forum.org.
Upcoming events sponsored by the Forum include a visit to Houston by Archbishop Charles Chaput, Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado (March 1-2) and a visit to UST by Sophia Institute Press and author Stratford Caldecott (April 15-16).
