Archdiocese Collects Donations for Haiti Earthquake Victims
1/15/2010 Dear Members of the St. Thomas Community,
In solidarity with the universal Church, the University of St. Thomas mourns the loss of life and suffering o f the people of Haiti as a result of the earthquake. Faith in our Lord calls us to offer up prayers for the victims and to offer financial and other forms of assistance to our suffering brothers and sisters.
Cardinal DiNardo has asked that a special second collection for the quake victims take place at all Masses in the Archdiocese this weekend, Jan. 16 and 17. These donations will provide for support of survivors of the earthquake through Catholic Relief Services, the Church’s international organization that addresses global humanitarian needs. In addition, he has requested that we keep the Haitian people in our prayers, “….particularly in the Prayers of the Faithful during our liturgies this week.”
In this time of suffering for the people of Haiti, may the response of the University of St. Thomas family be strong in our desire to help all in need. May the Holy Spirit descend on the people of Haiti bringing them peace and comfort.
With best wishes,
Fr. Michael Buentello, CSB
University Chaplain
