Opera in the Heights Presents Free Recital of La Bohème in Cullen Hall

Graphic: La BohemeOpera in the Heights, the University of St. Thomas and the Italian Cultural Center Federation present “La Bohème,” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, in Cullen Hall.

The recital is free. “La Bohème” is set in Paris in the period around 1830. It focuses on the love between the seamstress named Mimì and the poet, Rodolfo. They almost immediately fall
in love with each other, but Rodolfo later wants to leave Mimì because of her flirtatious behavior. However, Mimì is mortally ill, and Rodolfo feels guilty, since their life together may have worsened her health even further. They reunite for a brief moment at the end before Mimì dies.

Opera in the Heights is a nationally and internationally acclaimed opera house that provides a stage for emerging opera performers and brings affordable opera to the greater Houston area. Auditions are held in Houston, and New York City.
Opera in the Heights identifies rising young stars, gives them an opportunity to sing a major role, and advance their careers. This season, three of Opera in the Heights young stars moved on to the New York City Opera and Metropolitan Opera. More than 40 recognized singers credit Opera in the Heights as instrumental
in their advancement.
