UST to Host Homeschool Conference
4/16/2010 The Apostolate of Roman Catholic Homeschoolers (ARCH) will host “Living our Convictions,” the 20th Annual ARCH Conference. The conference begins with a pre-conference college spotlight about the University of St. Thomas at 2 p.m. on April 16, in Jerabeck Center, 4000 Mt. Vernon. Associate Professor of English Clint Brand and Assistant Director of Admissions Arthur Ortiz will speak. The conference officially begins at 6 p.m.
The second day of the conference begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday April 17 in Jerabeck Athletic Center. Danielle Bean of Faith and Family Magazine will be the keynote speaker. Other guest speakers include Tami Kiser of Smart Martha and Father Samuel Medley of the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity.
“ARCH is a parent support ministry; we put together the conferences,” said Director of the ARCH Home School Fair, Terry Arnold. “ARCH helps the parents of homeschooled children with all aspects of their child’s academia from K-12. We offer workshops with specialists to help children read in elementary school, and help parents prepare transcripts and college applications in high school.”
“Home schooling is one of the fastest growing demographics within education,” said Arthur Ortiz, assistant director of Admissions, who specializes in the home schooling market.
“Home-schooled students who have applied to UST have better academic profiles than most students applying from traditional schools,” said Ortiz. “Home-schooled students across the country attend colleges everywhere, including the most prestigious universities.”
