Fr. Robert Crooker Gives Year of Priest Lecture
4/16/2010
In celebration of the Year of the Priest, Father Robert Crooker, CSB, will present a lecture “‘On Mystery and Gift’ the Priesthood According to Pope John Paul II.” The lecture, presented in conjunction with the John Paul II Forum for the Church in the Modern World, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 25, Ahern Room, Crooker Center, 3909 Graustark.

Pope Benedict XVI declared a “Year for Priests” beginning with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 19, 2009. The year will conclude in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father from June 9-11, 2010.

“How can I not pay tribute to their apostolic labors, their tireless and hidden service, their universal charity?” Pope Benedict XVI wrote in a June 18, 2009 letter on the year of the priest. “And how can I not praise the courageous fidelity of so many priests who, even amid difficulties and incomprehension, remain faithful to their vocation as ‘friends of Christ,’ whom He has called by name.”

Fr. Crooker is a 1945 graduate of St. Thomas High School and was ordained in 1953. He joined the theology faculty of the University of St. Thomas in 1980. He served as vice president of finance from 1984 to 1986 and currently serves on the Board of Directors. Fr. Crooker holds a degree in canon law. He lives in the Basilian residence on the University campus.

The Pope John Paul II Forum works to promote a broader and deeper understanding of the thought of Pope John Paul II and to facilitate its application to contemporary issues. For more information, contact Dr. John Hittinger, Forum director at 713-525-2155 or hittinger@stthom.edu.
