Campus Ministry Hosts Open House, Reschedules Mass
8/26/2010
The University of St. Thomas Campus Ministry Office is working hard this year to enhance the beauty and integrity of the Catholic faith by encouraging an increase of student participation in the campus liturgies.

Beginning August 29, the Sunday Mass times at the Chapel of St. Basil will change to 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The former 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Masses will no longer be held. This change came as a surprise to several students, but UST Chaplain Father Michael Buentello, CSB, said he hopes this change will be positive and will raise student involvement.

“I’ve noticed a great desire among our students to be more involved in our Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass and I think that is a great blessing for our campus as we make it more college-oriented,” Fr. Buentello said. “I’m really excited with the spiritual direction of St. Thomas and especially with this incoming class. I see them as adding to the legacy and tradition of the University of St. Thomas.”

Music Ministry director David Schaider, who received his BA in Music from UST in 1982, also expressed excitement for the coming year.

“Good music at our Masses adds an element of beauty,” Schaider said. “It helps us all to enter into the Mass more deeply and more prayerfully.”

A Music Ministry Open House for new and returning musicians will be held from 7-9 p.m. , Monday, August 30 in the Campus Ministry Office , Crooker Center first floor.
“If you have a nudge drawing you to music ministry, please respond to it! That may be the Holy Spirit nudging you,” Schaider said.

A training for new extraordinary ministers and lectors will take place from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the Chapel of St. Basil. Campus Ministry is also looking for young men to serve as new altar servers at both Masses.
