Dr. Paul Hahn Presents, “The Strangest Book in the Bible”
10/6/2010
Dr. Paul Hahn, chair of the University of St. Thomas Theology Department, will discuss Ecclesiastes, in his lecture, “The Strangest Book in the Bible.” The event will be held at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 27 in Ahern Room, Crooker Center on the UST campus, 3909 Graustark.
Hahn’s lecture is the second in the “Words, Deeds and Art” lecture series hosted by the Serra Club of Houston, Notre Dame Club of Houston and the University of St. Thomas.
The strangest book in the Bible is Ecclesiastes, often called "Qoheleth". In fact, when Jews were deciding which books to include in the Hebrew Bible, Qoheleth was the most debated and barely made the cut. How can a book that says everything is meaningless and fundamentally distrusts God have any value for present-day Christians? Hahn will argue that Qoheleth's strangeness is what makes it most valuable.
The evening will begin with 5 p.m. Mass at the Chapel of St. Basil, 3802 Yoakum, followed by a reception in Ahern and the lecture. Admission is free for students with an ID and $20 for all others. Parking is complimentary.
