Basketball Runs 3-Game Winning Streak
12/22/2010
With finals in the bag and another semester done, the Celts Basketball Team returned to the floor for three games before the Christmas break. First up was a rematch with Our Lady of the Lake on Dec. 16 on their home court. The Celts stormed out to a 36-29 first half lead on 47 percent shooting from the field. After half time, it turned into a back and forth game with clutch shooting down the stretch. Balanced scoring by the Celts, with five players scoring in double figures, led to a close 69-67 win.
The Celts returned home for two home games against Loyola University on Dec. 18 and Dallas Christian on Dec. 20. Riding the confidence of a big win on the road, the Celts jumped on Loyola early taking a 54-29 lead to halftime. The Celts shot almost 70 percent from the field in that first half. The hot shooting continued in the second half for the Celts, which led to an easy 97-75 victory. The Celts made a season high 16 3-points. They were lead in scoring by Jeremy Lewis with 22 and Anthony Medina with 20.
With a two game winning streak on the line, the Celts next took on Dallas Christian. After a slow start in the first half, the Celts found their legs in the second half. Clutch shooting from the perimeter by Bryan Kaase, 19 points, and penetrating drives by Jeremy Lewis, 22 points, helped the Celts pull away late in the game. The 72-60 win moved the Celts record to 6-7 through the first half of the season. The Celts next take on Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Dec. 30 at home.
