Basketball Team Suffers Loss to Loyola
1/10/2011
The University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team hit the road to New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 8, to take on the Wolfpack of Loyola University. Both teams were eager for a rematch after the Celts defeated the Wolfpack at UST in December, but Loyola capitalized on their home advantage, defeating the Celts 56-73.

Loyola jumped on the Celts early with hot shooting from the field, while the Celts couldn’t find the range. In the first meeting, the Celts hit 16 three-pointers but were held to just 6-24 for 25 percent behind the arc, while Loyola hit 6-14 for 43 percent. The Celts drew close mid-way through the first half, but a final 12-2 run by the Wolfpack spread the halftime margin back out to a 25-40 deficit.

The second half was much more of the same for the Celts. An early run in the second half pulled the Celts to within eight points when Caleb Williams drained a big three. The Wolfpack responded once again with a big 17-4 run to put the game away for good downing the Celts 56-73.

The Celts were led by Travis Lampley with 12 points and Anthony Medina with 10 points and a game high 4 steals.

The Celts return home on Wednesday, Jan. 12 to take on Northern New Mexico at 7 p.m. in Jerabeck Athletic Center, 4000 Mt. Vernon.
