The University of St. Thomas
men’s basketball team defeated the Rice University Owls 72-59 on Nov. 10 in the Owls home opener at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice took a 6-1 lead early and stayed on top until guard Adrian Morales came in to hit four 3-pointers over a four-minute span. The boost gave St. Thomas a 25-15 lead, and the Celts led 34-21 at the half.
In the second half, Rice cut the lead to eight twice, but the Celts held strong defeating the Owls on their home court.
Celt scoring leader and game-changer
Adrian Morales had 17 points for the night.
Travis Lampley, who played the entire 40 minutes, had 14 points and 12 assists for a double-double.
Caleb Williams had 12 points and eight rebounds, and
Bryan Kaase shot for 14 points and eight rebounds.
Nate McAnelly also kicked in eight points.
The Celts are 2-0 on the season and will play Jarvis Christian College at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 in Jerabeck Gym.
