Men’s Basketball Cruises to 5-1
11/21/2012
Caleb WilliamsThe University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team sailed to 5-1 on the season after a 63-54 win against Wayland Baptist University on Nov. 20 in Plainview, Texas. The 5-1 start is the best UST has had in their first four years back on the hardwood. With the win, the men keep their No. 1 ranking in the Red River Athletic Conference.

Senior Caleb Williams led St. Thomas with 14 points, while junior Bryan Kaase had 10 points and seven rebounds. Junior Nate McAnelly added 10 points and five rebounds in only 20 minutes.

The Celts took a 32-26 halftime lead before the WBU Pioneers stormed out of the locker room to go up by 4 midway through the second half. With point guard Travis Lampley leading the way, the Celts maintained composure, regained the lead and finished the game at the free throw line. Lampley finished with 11 assists and nine rebounds.

Wayland was the third Sooner Athletic Conference opponent in five days for the Celts.

UST will break for Thanksgiving and return to the court on Nov. 29 to go on the road against Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
