Wiley Thumps Women’s Basketball
12/13/2012
UST Women's BasketballThe University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team fell to Wiley College 86-45 on Dec. 13. Wiley is ranked No. 2 in the Red River Athletic Conference

After falling behind 19-2 to start the game, the Celts battled their way into halftime down 41-21. The Celts were unable to make a run in the second half and could not come back. Maghen Lormand led the Celts with 14 points.

Head Coach Mike Ricks said it was a tough loss.

“We really dug ourselves a hole early, and then we kept digging and digging,” Ricks said. “Give credit to Wiley though. They have a good team, and they were ready to play.”

The Celts will have to pick themselves up quickly to head out on a two-game road trip. The team will take on Texas Wesleyan University on Dec. 15 in Fort Worth, Texas, and the University of the Southwest on Dec. 17 in Hobbs, New Mexico.

“We have to bounce back,” Ricks said. “We have accomplished quite a bit so far this year and are headed in the right direction. We just need to do the work to keep things going our way.”

The Celts will break for the Christmas holidays before returning to play a Jan. 3 home game against Northwood University. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. in the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center. The game will be broadcast live on Premier Sports Network. Download the full viewing schedule here.
