MBB Outscores Paul Quinn by 41
The University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team
made quick work of Paul Quinn College on Jan. 14. The Celts jumped out to a 43-21 halftime lead and kept up the pressure to win 89-48.
For the second game this season, the Celts held their opponent to less than 50 points. Also, for the second game in a row, UST shot more than 50 percent from the field. St. Thomas is currently ranked in the top 20 in the country for points allowed per game.
Senior Travis Lampley
finished the game with 19 points and 13 assists. Lampley currently leads the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics Division I in assists per game
with 9.53 and is third in steals per game. Senior Caleb Williams
, who is currently fifth in the NAIA for field goal percentage and 11th
in scoring, finished with 15 points. Junior Bryan Kaase
, who is ranked 15th
in the NAIA for scoring and 11th
in rebounding, led the team with 10 rebounds. Junior Nate McAnelly
chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds in the win.
UST plays Texas College on the road at 4 p.m. on Jan. 19.
The victory improves St. Thomas to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference
. It was the sixth win in the Celts last seven games.
