JP II Forum Explores Future of Catholic Education
5/14/2010

The John Paul II Forum will host distinguished Notre Dame Scholar Dr. Alfred Freddoso at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9 in Jones Hall, 3910 Yoakum. Freddoso will speak about “Notre Dame and the Future of Catholic Education.”

Freddoso is the John and Jean Oesterle Professor of Thomistic Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He is also a professor of law. A specialist in metaphysics, ethics within the Catholic intellectual tradition, and in various aspects of the relation of faith and reason, Freddoso is best known for his translations of Latin Catholic thinkers, including William of Ockham, Luis de Molina, and Francisco Suarez.

He has published seven books and numerous scholarly articles. One of his latest major scholarly projects is to produce a new translation of St. Thomas Aquinas’s Summa Theologiae. Recently, Freddoso wrote the introduction to the new book by Charles Rice, What Happened to Notre Dame?

The John Paul II Forum for the Church in the Modern World’s mission is to promote a broader and deeper understanding of the thought of Pope John Paul II and to facilitate its application to contemporary issues. The work of the Forum includes public lectures, workshops for faculty development and conferences. Learn more about the Forum at www.jp2forum.org. This lecture is free and open to the public.

While in Houston, Freddoso will also conduct an annual faculty workshop on the Catholic Intellectual Tradition from June 7-11.
