The University of St. Thomas
basketball programs and the African American Student Union completed its first annual Thanksgiving Food Drive on Nov. 21. The groups teamed up to provide approximately 172 meals to the Houston Food Bank.
"With this being our first food drive, we weren't really sure what to expect," said
Women's Basketball Head Coach Mike Ricks. "We're thrilled that we were able to contribute to a great cause and a great organization. Now that we have one under our belt, we will set the bar even higher next Thanksgiving."
The weeklong drive began at the men’s and women’s basketball games against
Red River Athletic Conference opponent Jarvis Christian College on Nov. 12. Canned goods and other donations were provided by UST students, faculty, staff and game attendees. All proceeds were donated to the Food Bank.
