Stephanie Biediger, a University of St. Thomas
women’s volleyball senior outside hitter, achieved a career milestone with 1,000 kills on Oct. 20 in the 3-1 win against University of the Southwest at Jerabeck Gym.
The Celts, with scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-17 and 25-23, won its second match in a row to improve to 16-10 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.
Biediger eclipsed the 1,000
th kill of her career with a match-high of 20 kills hitting at a .348 clip.
“Stephanie is a very important part of our team,” said
Head Coach Kallie Noble. “It’s a special thing for her to be here in Houston to get her 1,000
th kill, and she had family and friends in the stands. We rely a lot on her for obvious reasons. She has done a great job for us this season.”
Junior outside hitter
Kirsten Kubicek added 13 kills, and sophomore
Kylah Dias chipped in 11 kills for the Celts. Senior setter
Brittany Weiler collected a match-high 50 assists along with 15 digs, four kills and one service ace.
Shirley Paul led the defense with 22 digs.
The Celts
go on the road on Oct. 26-27 to play in the Southwestern Halloween Tournament. The team will return home to play University of Texas-Brownsville on Nov. 2 celebrate Senior Night against Our Lady of the Lake on Nov. 3.
