11/6/2012
The University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team opened the 2012-2013 season with two games at the Santa Claran Classic in Espanola, New Mexico on Nov. 2-3.
The season opener on Friday pitted the Celts against Arizona Christian University. In an intense, up-tempo game, the Celts lost 90-85.
“It really was a barnburner,” said Head Coach Mike Ricks. “We did a lot of good things, but Arizona Christian really dictated the pace of the game.”
UST took on the tournament host, Northern New Mexico College, on Saturday. The Celts won 75-64 and Arceneaux-Francis continued her torrid pace with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman Maghen Lormand chipped in with 15 points and 9 boards.
“I was really pleased with the way we bounced back after the loss,” Ricks said. “We really got it going to start the second half. We came out with purpose and were able to put the game away.”
Next up for the Celts is their home opener against Dallas Christian College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 in Jerabeck Gym. The game will be broadcast live at www.psnsports.com. For game and practice updates, visit the team’s Facebook page.
