Celts Win, Get Player of the Week Nod
2/18/2013
Amber Arceneaux-FrancisThe University of St. Thomas women’s basketball team won its 15th game of the season on Feb. 14 at Bacone College in Muskogee, Okla. The Celts came out of the gate a little slow but eventually found their groove en route to an 80-72 final score.

Amber Arceneaux-Francis paced the Celts with 31 points and 15 rebounds, while Maghen Lormand added a double-double of her own with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Gaby Guzman chipped in with 18 points.

“This was a good win for us,” said Head Coach Mike Ricks. “It’s not easy to win on the road, and we were able to find a way to get it done.”

Arceneaux-Francis was again honored as the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 11-17. She was 10-of-16 shooting from the field and blocked four shots in the game.

Next up for the Celts is a road contest at Huston-Tillotson University on Feb. 21.

With only three games left in the regular season, Ricks believes his team understands the importance of finishing the season strong.

“We want to make sure we keep trying to improve every day and that we are playing our best basketball as we head to Waxahachie for the conference tournament,” he said.
