The University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team
survived a 92-82 overtime win at Huston-Tillotson University on Feb. 21. The Celts made the game tough on themselves before finishing off the Rams.
UST took a commanding 45-30 halftime lead and looked like they would cruise to another victory. However, St. Thomas gave up 48 second-half points and had to play an extra five minutes before getting the win.
Senior point guard Travis Lampley
delivered another double-double with 15 points and 15 assists. Junior Bryan Kaase
chipped in 23 points. Junior Henoc Jean
also contributed with a season-high 19 points. Kaase led UST with 10 rebounds while sophomore guard Deric Dudley
had nine rebounds.
Tyrice Hill led the Rams with 22 points, going an impressive 6 of 11 from behind the arc.
The win improves St. Thomas to 22-6 overall and 15-5 in the RRAC.
Come out and support the team at its last home game of the year at 4 p.m. on Feb. 22 when they battle Louisiana State University-Shreveport for second place in the Red River. As a part of the Homecoming
celebration, seniors Lampley, Caleb Williams
, Barrett Lauer
and Adrian Morales
will be recognized before the game. Tickets are $3 and free for children 12 and under.
