Montelongo Awarded ACPA Award

Photo: Dr. Ric Montelongo Dr. Ric Montelongo, University of St. Thomas’ director for student success, received the Community Advancement and Service Award during the 2013 American College Personnel Association conference held in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 4-7.
 

Montelongo recieved the service award the through his involvement in the Latino Network, a branch of the ACPA for Latino members of the association.

The award is given to members of the Latino Network who make significant contributions to the Latino community in higher education.
 

A former chair for the Latino Network, Montelongo now serves as past chair, assisting the newest leadership in the Network. Montelongo also developed and collaborated with eight other Latino Network colleagues and launched a convention titled “Latina/os and Their Involvement”.
 

“We presented four sessions discussing our best practices and research on Latino student involvement,” Montelongo said. “Our next goal is to publish our work and findings.”
 

Montelongo oversees various on-campus programs, including the Mendenhall Summer Institute and Freshman Symposium.

Additionally, Montelongo manages the First-Generation College Student group alongside Director of Residence Life Yolanda Norman, who also received an award from the ACPA.
