John Macias, doctoral student at the University of St. Thomas Center for Thomistic Studies, has been accepted to the 8th Annual Thomistic Seminar for graduate students in philosophy and related disciplines from Aug. 4-10 in Princeton, N.J. The topic is “Themes in the Philosophy of Alasdair MacIntyre and Thomas Aquinas.” |
| Apr 29, 2013 Alumna Directs Mother Teresa Play
Mother Teresa’s love and grace has crossed cultural barriers and warmed hearts around the world. To exemplify and celebrate her observance of the value of humanity, the University of St. Thomas Fine Arts and Drama Department is partnering with Houston’s A.D. Players for a weekend of events to premier the performance of “Malcolm and Teresa,” which previews on May 22 and 23, opens on May 24 and runs through June 23 at A.D. Players, 2710 W. Alabama. |

Senior Micaela Brebion, an international development major, takes her buddy Robert to Buffalo Wild Wings all the time because it’s his favorite restaurant. Brebion is one of the many University of St. Thomas students involved with Best Buddies Texas, which is a part of an international non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing socialization and employment opportunities. |
| Apr 25, 2013 Hattrup Dissertation Passes
Joseph Hattrup’s dissertation, "Form and Predicability in Aristotle's Categories and the Middle Books of the Metaphysics," was unanimously passed on April 19. He argued that two famous Aristotelian doctrines on substance are not contradictory in principle. Hattrup will now be referred to as Dr. Joseph Hattrup. |

 The University of St. Thomas Psychology Department was well represented at the 59th Southwestern Psychological Association Annual Meeting on April 5-7 in Fort Worth, Texas. Sixteen students and three faculty members presented research that addressed important health and societal issues. |

University of St. Thomas has joined forces with Houston B-cycle, a bike-sharing program with locations around downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. For students who don’t have cars, the bike share offers an additional means of transportation. |

| Apr 18, 2013 Alumna of the Year Embodies GRACE
“Giving back to University of St. Thomas constitutes giving time, treasure and talent,” said Maria Younger M.Ed. ’05, assistant director of annual giving. For this reason, she nominated her friend, Dr. Ana-Lisa Gonzalez ’97, M.Ed. ’01, assistant professor and director of Reading and Catholic Education, and the GRACE program, for the Rev. Vincent J. Guinan CSB Alumni of the Year Award. Because Gonzalez’s service to the university goes beyond the classroom, she was honored to receive this award from the University she loves. |
