Transfer Student Dives into the World of Politics

What first struck Vladimir Davidiuk about the University of St. Thomas was the University’s unique sense of community and school spirit. This spirit, he says, doesn’t lie in winning the most games or wearing school colors though. Instead, it lies in its good will.

“I love the school spirit,” Davidiuk said. “It is about building community, creating a positive change and making the world a better place.”

Like nearly 40 percent of UST undergraduate students, Davidiuk is a transfer student, transferring from Houston Community College into St. Thomas with the desire to study political science.

Watch a video on the transfer process here.

“The transfer advisor was very helpful, making sure credits transferred and paperwork was filled out correctly,” Davidiuk said. “They made sure the process was painless.”

The transfer application process is a simple, two-step application. Students should apply online and submit official transcripts from each college attended.

Davidiuk, a political science and pre-law major, transitioned seamlessly into the UST community. Now in his second semester, he is putting his political science courses to work: He is involved with the UST College Republicans; Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society; and the Student Government Association, where he has been re-elected as a junior class senator.

Outside of the classroom, Davidiuk is an avid political blogger and is involved in both local and national politics. He serves on the outreach committee for the Harris County Republican Party and is a member of the Houston Young Republicans.

“I want to practice constitutional civil rights laws to represent people who don’t have as big a voice in the process as they should.”

Davidiuk has also gained applied experience in his field while working on several political campaigns, including the Steve Mueller campaign for Congress, the Ted Cruz campaign for U.S. Senate and the Mitt Romney Presidential Campaign.

“The University of St. Thomas offers a community, more than just an education opportunity,” Davidiuk said.

The University of St. Thomas invites students interested in transferring to St. Thomas to schedule a campus tour and meet with and admissions counselor. During the visit, you will learn more about the application process, scholarships and financial aid. UST encourages prospective students to meet with current professors and students while on campus.
