Admissions Creates New Grad Office
5/1/2013

Photo: UST StarProspective graduate students considering University of St. Thomas will now be able to contact a central graduate admissions office. University of St. Thomas is establishing a new Office of Graduate Admissions as part of its strategic planning process. The Office of Graduate Admissions will centralize some of the functions of the inquiry and application process for graduate programs at UST. The purpose is to bring efficiency to University admissions processes and provide a quicker turnaround on communications to prospective students, who are often researching several universities before sending in an application.

Dr. Dominic Aquila, vice president for Academic Affairs, said establishing an Office of Graduate Admissions is an important step in sustaining and advancing the academic standards and quality of the University's graduate programs.

“By relieving deans and directors of graduate programs’ many administrative tasks, this office will allow them to spend more time on what they do best: working with current and prospective students to ensure their academic success."

The new Office of Graduate Admissions will report to Vickie Alleman, vice president for Marketing Communications and Enrollment Management. A search is currently underway for a director and a technology coordinator, who will be the primary enrollment staff to support the Cameron School of Business, Master in Liberal Arts program, the School of Education, the Center for Faith and Culture, and the Center for Thomistic Studies.

“In today’s competitive higher education environment, communicating quickly to prospective students is a requirement of the enrollment process,” Alleman said. “Students want more personal attention and specifics about degree plans. By centralizing the application and administrative processes, the individual graduate program staff and faculty will be able to focus their time on advising and communicating the benefits of their programs.”

The Office of Graduate Admissions is expected to begin operations in July. It will be located at one of the undergraduate admissions offices, above The Black Labrador restaurant, 4100 Montrose Blvd. For more information, contact Admissions at 713-525-3500 or admissions@stthom.edu.
