Oct 27, 2010  Houston Arts Alliance Awards Grant to Irish Studies Cultural Outreach
The University of St. Thomas Center for Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Program was recently awarded a $2,500 grant from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance (HAA).  Organizations are selected to receive grants based on their expertise, objectivity and ability to reflect the diversity of the Houston community.

James Silas Rogers, noted author, editor, and poet and managing director of the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) Center for Irish Studies, will venture south to share his expertise on the Irish in America in his lecture, “The ‘Greatest Generation’ Irish Style: The Mid-Twentieth Century Reinvention of the Irish in America.”

Oct 20, 2010  UST Hosts "Button, Fiddles and Bows" Irish concert
Irish musicians Jesse Smith and Colm Gannon will perform the concert, “Buttons, Fiddles and Bows: Rising Voices in Traditional Irish Music,” at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 7 on the University of St. Thomas campus, Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon.

Oct 06, 2010  Historian Discusses Women, Artists in Irish Politics
The University of St. Thomas Center for Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Forum will sponsor, “No Ordinary People: The Role of Irish Artist John Lavery, Hazel Lavery and Other Women in Irish Revolutionary Politics 1900-1923,”  a lecture by Irish historian and author, Sinéad McCoole, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, in Cullen Hall.

The University of St. Thomas Center for Irish Studies will host the 2010 Annual Irish Gala, benefitting study abroad and academic programs, on Friday, Nov. 5, at the Houstonian Hotel. The event honors Peg and William J. Flynn.

Aug 20, 2010  UST Hosts Evening of Traditional Tales from Ireland
Houston Storyteller Guild Members Susan Gallagher, Sally Bates Goodroe and Brian Herod will recite Irish and Celtic folktales and legends when the University of St. Thomas Center for Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Forum hosts Céilí House: An Evening of Traditional Tales from Ireland. 

Aug 18, 2010  Festa Italiana Returns to UST Campus Oct. 15-17
The sights, sounds and mouth-watering aromas of Italy will once again beckon thousands to the picturesque, centrally-located University of St. Thomas campus. The 32nd Annual Festa Italiana will be held for three days from Friday to Sunday, October 15 to l7.

Aug 04, 2010  Second Collection Raises Funds for Catholic Scholarships
All parishes in the Archdiocese are invited to continue participate in the Second Collection for Catholic Higher Education on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12. The money collected benefits the Father Francis E. Monaghan Scholarship Fund.
