Street Artist Paints Picture of Travel
2/13/2013
Photo: Daniel Anguilu ArtWorld-renowned artist Daniel Anguilu made a career of traveling internationally through his artwork. As a part of the Center for International Studies Friday Lectures Series, he will share his story at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15 in Tiller Hall, 103, 4121 Yoakum Blvd.

Anguilu, a street artist and muralist, has been invited to many countries around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Peru, Spain and Italy, to paint and participate in art exhibits that feature cutting-edge work.

“The lifestyle that is created in doing art this way, you usually only read about,” he said. “I would read about people in other countries doing art like this, and now I get the chance to meet them through painting.”

His use of color, shapes and interpretation makes his art intriguing to the art elite and ordinary art lover. He has been commissioned to paint buildings, streets and even trains. Yes, trains.

“When you paint a train, your art can travel from Central America to Canada,” he said.

Anguilu has done several murals around Houston including on the Houston Baha'i Center, 2419 Fannin St., and the former Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority building, 2850 Fannin St. With the MHMRA building, he would like to cover the entire surface of the four-story edifice with animal-friendly murals.

Attend the event to hear Anguilu talk about traveling around the world through his artwork. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Diana Garcia at 713-525-3530 or garciad@stthom.edu.
