University of St. Thomas Adjunct Professor of Music Marion Russell Dickson was selected as one of seven recipients of the National Association of Teachers of Singing 2014 Emerging Leader Award. Dickson will receive a $750 grant toward her attendance of NATS 53rd National Conference to be held in Boston from July 5-9, 2014.

With nearly 85 percent of incoming students receiving scholarships, the University of St. Thomas is fortunate to have donors contribute to the success of students. One such foundation is the Scanlan Foundation, which has donated more than $7.8 million in lifetime giving.

Dr. Elizabeth Coscio, associate professor and chair of the Modern and Classical Languages Department, presented her paper titled, “Nineteenth Century Bilingual Drama: Lafayette in Mount Vernon,” at the annual conference of the International Congress on Hispanic Literature, which was held on March 12-14 in Colombia.

Rabbi Shai HeldRabbi Shai Held, the co-founder, dean and chair in Jewish Thought at New York City’s renowned Mechon Hadar institute, will deliver the University of St. Thomas’ annual Herzstein Lecture in Judaism on Wednesday, Feb. 12 with a talk titled "The World is Built on Hesed: Towards a Jewish Theology of Lovingkindness."  The lecture will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the University’s Cullen Hall, followed by a reception and book signing in Doherty Library.

This is an honor 14 students from the University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies experienced when they met with Taiwan's president, Mr. Ma Ying-jeou on Jan. 9 in recognition of the successful educational and cultural exchanges between UST and Taiwan. The UST students were led by the Center director, Dr. Hans Stockton, an East Asia expert and long-time Taiwan specialist who has led such delegations since 2007 as part of a course he teaches on contemporary Taiwan.
