2nd Annual National SleepOut UST
Saturday, November 10, 2012 7:00 PM to Sunday, November 11, 2012 7:00 AM
Grab your sleeping bags and warm clothes for the 2nd Annual National SleepOut UST promotes empathy, understanding and action through this shared experience that focuses on homelessness.
The University of St. Thomas Social Justice Committee invites you to sleep outside on the Academic Mall. The SleepOut begins at 7 p.m. on Nov. 10. Speakers Noah Rattler, Joseph Benson and Larry Payne will speak on issues of homelessness and inform participants about volunteer efforts.
The event will help the participants renew their appreciation for the things that they have by allowing them to spend time without it. It will create empathy and understanding for those who suffer through hunger and homelessness by educating the participants on the realities that these members of our communities face.
We encourage participants to bring the bare minimum for the SleepOut event as the objective is to see what it is like to go without. We strongly discourage tents, iPods and bringing an abundance of snacks as the homeless often do not have the luxury of choosing when they will eat.
We recommend participants only bring the following items: sleeping bag, blanket, pillow, and a notebook to document your experience. This event will take place rain or shine. $2 parking in Moran Center Garage. This is a free event.
