IFEST Brings World Cultures to UST

From the high energy and driving beats of the Brazilian Samba to the intoxicating aroma of lumpia from the Philippines, the world is coming to the University of St. Thomas on April 24 at 6:30 p.m. on UST’s Crooker Patio, 3909 Graustark, for the 11th annual International Festival. The event is free and open to the public.

Join the UST community and friends as they explore different countries and cultures via food, music, dance arts and crafts and celebrate the diversity Houston has to offer.

The International Studies Society hosts the festival annually to celebrate diversity and promote cultural literacy through an evening of enjoyment.

ISS President Dominic Kisielewski, senior international studies major, said IFEST is a long-running event on campus and is the perfect way for students, faculty, staff and visitors to have a good time while enjoying free food and entertainment.

“IFEST is a celebration of the many cultures found at UST, and we want to showcase that diversity,” Kisielewski said. “We want people to know that even though we come from different backgrounds and cultures, we are all Celts.”

IFEST will include local Houston food trucks including Texas Blizzard Shave Ice, the Waffle Bus, Tacos Tierra Caliente, Apna Bazaar, To the Jeepney, Melange Creperie, Marini’s Empanada House, and Bambu.

Performances include Polish dancers from Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Salsa dancers from Strictly Street Salsa, Indian folk dancers from Bella Donna Dance Company and Samba dancers from LD Dance Company.

In addition to food trucks and live performances, IFEST will also provide free drinks. Students 21 and older should bring ID.
