Cameron School Students Participate in Business Case Competition
12/18/2009
Houston’s unexpected snowfall and tricky driving conditions on Dec. 4 did not stop University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business students from coming to campus to compete in the business case competitions. The Cameron School of Business hosts business case competitions every fall and spring to showcase the business analysis skills of the graduating Cameron students. Classes are divided into teams which compete against their classmates.
Four teams of students in Dr. Beena George’s management capstone course (MGMT 4399) participated in the undergraduate case competition, presenting their analyses of Sony’s response to marketplace challenges resulting from the introduction of the Nintendo Wii system. The case competition was judged by an panel drawn from highly successful business and academic professionals from the Houston community.
Students in the winning undergraduate team were Nathaniel Jung, Paula Marsh, Michelle Oquendo, Mary Ann Rodriguez, along with Roberto Gonzalez.
Eight teams of students in Professor John O. Whitney’s MBA 5370 class (Strategic Leadership) participated in a graduate case competition, which involved the analysis of Rilco, a Houston-based manufacturing company. The company provided reams of data about current opportunities, which the students were required to analyze. Based on this analysis, each group presented a set of recommendations to Rilco management.
Students in the winning graduate team were Amine Farhat, Monica de la Cerda, Stephenie Schillaci, Anabel España, Mario Sandoval and Wojtek Rutkowski.
This semester’s competitions were sponsored by the local chapter of the Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society for Business Administration. This semester, each student on a winning team took home a $50 cash award provided by the UST chapter of the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society.
