UST Signs Exchange Agreement with University in Taiwan
2/22/2010
A delegation from Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages from Kaohsiung, Taiwan visited the University of St. Thomas on Feb. 15 to sign a memo of understanding for Academic Exchange that opens the door for future faculty and student exchanges. The Wenzao visit comes on the heels of the October 2009 visit to Taiwan by Dean of Extended Programs Ravi Srinivas and Center for International Studies Associate Professor Dr. Hans Stockton.

Wenzao collaborates with a forum affiliated with The International Council of Universities of St Thomas Aquinas (ICUSTA), the U3 Forum, that annually brings together universities from Chile, China, Taiwan, and the United States for academic conferences and exchanges.

The delegation included Wenzao President Dr. Francis K.H. So, local Wenzao alumni, and representatives from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston. The delegation met with UST President Dr. Robert Ivany and a various members of the UST faculty and administration.

Founded in 1966 by the Sisters of the Roman Union of the Order of St. Ursuala, Wenzao College of Languages is dedicated to the formation of students with a sense of mission and concern for international society. Wenzao is renowned for its foreign language and teacher training, and offers programs in International Affairs, International Business, and Communications.

This new agreement would bring forth an additional exchange partner in Taiwan. UST signed a student exchange agreement with National Cheng Chi University in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2008 and enjoys a vibrant exchange of undergraduate students.

In addition to participating in various group study abroad opportunities, UST enjoys undergraduate exchange agreements with 14 universities and colleges throughout the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Students participating in semester-long, exchange studies abroad are considered “in residence” during their time abroad and may apply scholarships and financial aid to their program of study.
