Champions Club Hosts Annual Luncheon for UST Athletics
4/20/2010
Houston Texans President Jamey Rootes will lead the line-up as the keynote speaker at the University of St. Thomas Champions Club Benefit Luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. May 6 in Scanlan Room, Jerabeck Center, 4000 Mt. Vernon. Master of Ceremonies is Oliver Luck, president of the Houston Dynamo.
Rootes serves as president of the Houston Texans and has been with the franchise for 10 years. He has overseen the team’s efforts to secure stadium naming rights and sponsorship and coordinated radio and TV broadcasting relationships. He also engineered the club’s successful ticket and suite sales campaigns, led the creation and launch of the team’s identity and developed its highly acclaimed customer service strategy.
Rootes was selected twice by SportsBusiness Journal as a member of its distinguished Forty Under 40 list of leading sports executives. He maintains an active role in the community and serves on a number of boards, including the Greater Houston Partnership, the United Way of Greater Houston, the Houston Food Bank and the Greater Houston Convention and visitors Bureau.
A native of Stone Mountain, Ga., Rootes attended Clemson University and was a member of the Tigers’ soccer team that captured two NCAA titles. While earning a Master of Business Administration degree at Indiana University, he served as an assistant soccer coach for the Hoosiers. Rootes previously held positions at IBM and Procter & Gamble before entering sports. He lives in West University with his wife, Melissa, and their children, Christopher and Caroline.
The mission of the Champions Club is to strengthen the University’s Athletic Department by providing financial support for the athletic program, promoting community awareness and increasing involvement in the University.
Thanks to the Champions Club, the UST Intercollegiate Athletics program continues to grow. In 2009-2010, men’s basketball was added to complement women’s volleyball and men’s soccer. The success of our teams has raised school spirit and engaged more alumni and friends than ever before. As the Champions Club membership expands, more sports are planned. Each person who attends this benefit luncheon become a Champions Club member and a benefactor of our student athletes.
Limited individual tickets will be sold $125. Respond promptly to reserve your seat by calling Laura Dozier at 713-525-3118. Parking is available for $2 in the Moran Center, 3807 Graustark.
