Volleyball Head Coach Introduces New Guest Coaching Program
5/4/2010

Now Herman plans to include a new focus in his inaugural season with the Lady Celts: A Guest Coaching Program.

The Guest Coaching Program is open to the UST community and will begin with the Lady Celts’ first home game in fall 2010. Herman said that he has been involved in similar programs at other institutions.

“I believe this program will be a wonderful way for the UST community to understand the preparation that goes into every game from the student athlete perspective,” said Herman. “Those chosen to become a part of the program will be privy to all game day details.”

According to Herman there will be a specific method to the selection of guest coaches.

“The first people we will approach will be the professors of the volleyball players. If prior commitments prevent them from participating in the program, then we will widen the scope to the rest of the UST community to include clergy, staff members and students,” Herman said.

Herman said program participants will enjoy a host of exclusive perks.

“Guest coaches will receive a copy of the volleyball media guide signed by the volleyball team; a UST volleyball T-shirt; the opportunity to listen in on the pre-game speech and huddles throughout the game,” Herman said. “They will also be recognized by the announcer; have the opportunity to spend time with the volleyball team during their serve and pass session, where they will get the inside track on our strategy to defeat the opposing team; and will be seated near the volleyball team during the game.”

Herman hopes that beyond rallying community support for the volleyball team, the Guest Coach Program will give the UST community a renewed sense of ownership and pride about the Lady Celts Volleyball Program.

“My hope is that this Guest Coach Program will begin an annual tradition at UST for years to come,” Herman said. “And the program will bridge the gap between student-athletes and the rest of the University community,” said Herman.
