Homeschool Theatre Group Performs Play at UST

 The Awesome Homeschool Drama Group performed a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat for the UST community along with friends and family. The play was held at Cullen Theater at the University of St. Thomas on Friday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 4.
This group is part of the Aquinas Homeschool Group that meets at UST once a week.
“It gives support and peer interaction and moreover it allows us to do things such as dramatic productions that individuals families would find difficult to do,” said Diane Aquila, who has many children involved in the group.
The play is based on the Bible story of Joseph, son of Jacob, whose 12 brothers sold him into slavery.
The students have been working on the play since mid-January.
“It is a fun, but challenging play composed by one of the best and most famous modern day composers, Andrew Lloyd Weber, however with a somewhat simplified ‘school’ version that makes it more doable for a young group such as this,” said the Director Victoria Wunder. “Most of all, I think the combination of singing, dancing and acting challenged these children to a point outside of their comfort zone, which allows them to grow in both ability and confidence.”
The University of St. Thomas has become a destination for homeschooled students whose families are drawn by the classical, faith-based, liberal arts education and small classes.
